Vestry and Committees

VESTRY

Emmanuel is governed by a team of officers and a representative lay leadership body called the vestry, which works with the rector to attend to the financial health, ministries, and other business of the parish. Members are elected by the congregation at the church’s annual meeting in January and serve terms of 2 years (officers) and 3 years (members).  Emmanuel’s current officers and vestry are:

In addition to the vestry, several other committees support the work and ministry of the parish. All are comprised of dedicated parishioners. Among them are the following:

HOSPITALITY 
COMMITTEE  

Members plan food and refreshments for a variety of special events and parties throughout the year.  Meets as needed. 

MISSION AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE

Members identify organizations to receive coffee hour and other donations, organize drives for special causes, educate about racial justice, and oversee community outreach programs at Horizon House and the Bread of Life.  

FUNDRAISING 
COMMITTEE

Members plan a variety of events and other activities in order to meet the fundraising goal identified in the annual budget.  Meets monthly. 

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

Members assist in internal and external marketing and communications efforts, including publicity, social media, website design and maintenance, and mailings.  Meets monthly. 

BUILDING & GROUNDS
COMMITTEE

Members work together and independently with outside contractors and Emmanuel’s property manager to maintain our buildings and property.  Meets monthly. 

WORSHIP
COMMITTEE

Members plan seasonal worship including special services and related activities.  Includes representatives of those involved in altar guild, choir, worship ministries, Christian education, vestry, and the congregation at large. Meets quarterly.  

ALTAR GUILD 

Members work in teams to prepare the altar for Sunday worship services and special seasons/services during the year. Assigned approximately one Sunday per month; meets quarterly.  

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Members work closely with the rector, treasurer, and vestry to provide guidance and make recommendations regarding financial matters.  Members are appointed by the vestry.  Meets monthly.  

PASTORAL CARE 
COMMITTEE

Members provide outreach to people in times of need and to our extended Emmanuel family.  Meets monthly. 

BUDGET COMMITTEE

Members meet several times in December and January to develop the church’s annual budget for presentation to the congregation and approval at Annual Meeting.  

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Members plan weekly children’s programming, educational offerings for adults, and special programs (such as youth Confirmation classes).  Meets as needed.

NOMINATING 
COMMITTEE  

Meets in December/January to determine the slate of candidates to be elected by Annual Meeting to fill open officer, vestry, diocesan delegate, and deanery representative seats.  

STEWARDSHIP 
COMMITTEE 

Meets in late spring and summer to plan the annual fall stewardship (pledge) campaign.
