Mission and Outreach Committee

Here at Emmanuel Church, our Mission and Outreach Committee is dedicated to leading us to live out Christ's call to love and serve others. We believe that God's love is made tangible through acts of compassion, justice, and service both in our local community and globally. By engaging in various ministries, we strive to follow Christ's example, sharing God’s love with those facing hardship, injustice, and need. We are passionate about our work!

Our committee coordinates a variety of ministries and projects, including:

LGBTQ+ Rights

We advocate for the dignity and rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, ensuring they are welcomed, valued, and supported within our faith community and beyond, in line with our call to love and embrace all of God’s children.  We are particularly concerned with the wellbeing and care of our trans family and friends.

Food Insecurity

We address hunger in our community by partnering with the Wakefield Food Pantry in weekly food drives and by providing community meals at Bread of Life in Malden and Horizon House in Wakefield.  We seek to provide nourishment and support to those in need.

Immigration Compassion

We offer a voice of support and solidarity for immigrants and refugees, providing resources and advocacy to help ensure fair treatment and humane conditions for all who seek safety and a new home.

Disaster Response and Recovery

We respond to natural disasters and emergencies by providing immediate aid, resources, and long-term recovery support to affected communities through partnerships with global organizations like Episcopal Relief and Development and Project Hope.  We also offer emotional and spiritual care for those in crisis.

Mental Health and Addiction Recovery

We raise awareness and provide support for mental health and addiction recovery in our community. Through partnerships with organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Horizon House, and Ruth’s Way for Women, we provide ongoing support to those in recovery, helping them find healing, hope, and a sense of belonging.

Over the years, we have learned about and supported both local and global organizations that work with hunger, housing and shelter, education/youth, health, environmental and economic sustainability, refugee and immigration, disaster relief, and the elderly. Our initiatives have included racial justice education, drives for Syrian Refugees, Ukraine, and foster children.

The Committee offers speakers and activities around themes or causes, and the parish is invited to support related financially worthy organizations through coffee hours, seasonal offerings, and drives when possible.
