May Soul Supper - Faith, Food and The Future
Thursday, May 8, 2025
Emmanuel Episcopal Church in downtown Wakefield invites the community to join us for a monthly free dinner and learning event: “Soul Suppers.” The program meets on the second Thursday of the month and offers an opportunity to share a meal in community and then to learn something new together.

This next Soul Supper, titled Faith, Food and the Future, will he held on Thursday, May 8. The evening begins with a shared meal at 6:00 PM, followed by a program at 6:45 PM featuring guest speaker Sonia DeMarta, an environmental advocate and sustainable food educator.
DeMarta, whose career spans from founding the Lexington Farmers’ Market to teaching sustainable cooking to children and communities, brings decades of insight into how our food choices affect the planet. Her presentation, “What does my hamburger have to do with global warming?” explores the links between methane emissions, food waste, organic farming, and how we can joyfully reduce our carbon footprint—starting at the dinner table.
“Faith calls us to care for creation,” says event organizer, Reverend Brett Johnson. “This event is about learning how small changes in our habits can reflect big love for the world God made.”
All are welcome—whether you're passionate about climate justice, exploring your own food choices, or simply looking for an evening of nourishing community and dialogue.

To help us plan for food, please RSVP if attending in person.

“Come gather with friends for a simple supper and learning! The topics will range over many subjects, varying every month. Subjects will cover social justice, Scripture, and seasonal fun,” said the Rev. Brett R. Johnson, Emmanuel’s Rector. “God longs to feed us—in every way!”
